Postpartum depression is the most common complication of childbirth. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) is an effective way of checking for depression during this time of life. Questions 1, 2, & 4 are scored 0, 1, 2 or 3 with the top answer scored as 0 and the bottom answer scored as 3. Questions 3, 5 & 10 are score in the reverse. The maximum possible score is 30 with higher numbers indicating worse distress. It is not a replacement for seeing a doctor.
